Wynwood — The Art of Hip Hop in Wynwood is set to celebrate the intersection of art and fashion with the launch of its latest collection, “Old School Versus New School.” This new exhibit highlights the visual contributions to hip-hop culture, including fashion design, filmmaking, photography, album graphics, and graphic design.

Maurizio Gomez, an organizer of the exhibition, explained, “We’re showcasing the visual aspects of hip-hop, featuring contributions from various creators in the industry, including fashion designers.”

Among the highlights of the exhibit are the vibrant airbrush shirts by legendary designer Shirt King Phade. Known for his graffiti-inspired designs, Phade commented, “Graffiti art is colorful, so it made sense to translate these markings into fashion. Our work became a staple in the hip-hop community and the first uniform that hip-hoppers wore on stage.”

The collection also features the work of renowned celebrity designer Lila Nikole, who has collaborated with major figures in hip-hop including Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and 50 Cent. Nikole shared, “Being part of the hip-hop space and having these artists call on me to create for them is an incredible experience.”

Nikole’s favorite pieces include a custom ransom note featuring Wu-Tang Clan members and a special design for The Weeknd, which was showcased during his first Super Bowl performance. “These pieces hold a special place in my heart due to their significant moments in my career,” she added.

An important event will take place tomorrow, featuring the unveiling of these new pieces. Nikole will be joined by her brother Dinero and Supa Cindy for a panel discussion on the role of fashion in hip-hop history. DJ Rob Dinero emphasized, “Fashion is a core element of hip-hop culture, from Kangol hats to Adidas tracksuits.”

Attendees will have the chance to purchase Lila Nikole’s limited-edition, reversible bucket hats and enjoy an array of activities. Nikole invited the public, stating, “It’s open to everyone, so bring your family. Dinero will be spinning music, cocktails will be available, and you’ll have the opportunity to view other iconic art pieces. If you love hip-hop, this is an event you won’t want to miss.”
