ValleyCAST, the arts and culture division of Open Sky Community Services, is set to showcase a new exhibition titled “The Art of Fashion” at the Spaulding R. Aldrich Heritage Gallery, located at 50 Douglas Road, Whitinsville. The exhibit will open with a free reception at 6 p.m. on September 5, coinciding with the final concert of the ValleyCAST 2024 Free Summer Concert Series, which will feature the Studio Two Beatles Tribute Band.
Xiang Li, who spent 37 years as a professional restoration and reproduction artist at the Palace Museum in Beijing before relocating to Massachusetts in 2006, will be among the featured artists. Li, in collaboration with her daughter Fei Wu, transforms her artwork into “wearable art” using print-on-demand services to create unique items such as wearables, home goods, and prints.
The “Art of Fashion” exhibit will highlight the latest works from local textile artists, each employing distinct techniques in their creations. Li, for instance, uses watercolors to craft vibrant, detailed paintings of Chinese Empresses on silk, which are then adapted into fashion items.
