British fashion designer Jean Pallant has experienced a heartwarming reunion with a long-lost coat that was rediscovered in an Oxfam charity shop nearly four decades after it went missing.
The orange coat, adorned with large buttons, was crafted by Pallant in her kitchen in 1988. Its return came as a surprise when it was found in a donation bag at the Oxfam shop in Mill Hill, London. “It’s like seeing a child. It’s lovely. I know every single square inch of it, and I’m absolutely amazed that it looks so new and feels new,” Pallant remarked. “Everything about it looks exactly as it did when it went missing.”
Marina Ikey-Botchway, manager of the Mill Hill Oxfam shop, recognized the coat’s unique value immediately upon discovering it among a collection of fast-fashion items. “The very first second I saw the coat, I knew this was something special, so I checked the label and, after a quick Google search, found Jean’s email,” she explained.
Notably, the coat was also worn by iconic sixties fashion model Penelope Tree during Oxfam’s Style for Change fashion show, which partnered with Vinted as part of its Second Hand September campaign.
