French multinational luxury group Kering has officially announced the appointment of Stefano Cantino as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of Gucci, effective January 1, 2025. Cantino, who joined Gucci in May 2024 as deputy CEO, will report to Francesca Bellettini, Kering’s deputy CEO overseeing brand development. He will also hold a position on Kering’s executive committee, succeeding Jean-François Palus.

Palus, who took the reins as Gucci’s CEO in July 2023, was tasked with laying the groundwork for the brand’s future and identifying his successor.

In a statement, Francesca Bellettini expressed gratitude for Palus’s commitment during this transitional phase, stating, “I am deeply grateful to Jean-François for his dedication and loyalty to Gucci. I am confident that, building on what has been set up over the past 15 months, Stefano and the Gucci team will succeed in their mission to restore Gucci to its rightful leadership position in the industry.”

François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering, praised Palus for his contributions during a challenging period. “I wholeheartedly thank Jean-François for his achievements at the helm of Gucci since summer 2023. He made courageous decisions necessary for the House and established a solid foundation for Gucci’s revival under Stefano’s leadership. His collaboration with me over the past 30 years has been truly invaluable.”

Stefano Cantino brings extensive experience to his new role, having previously led communications and image at Louis Vuitton. A graduate in Political Science from the University of Turin, he spent two decades at Prada Group, where he held various positions in marketing and commercial operations, ultimately serving as director of communications and marketing.
