Tina

This Black History Month, we shine a spotlight on three of London’s most innovative Black Muslim fashion designers, whose work is deeply rooted in their cultural ties to the Caribbean and Africa.

Sauda Husna Imam is a multidisciplinary artist and designer known for her striking prints and woven fabrics. Her creations are a vibrant homage to her hometown of Kano, Nigeria, reflecting its rich colors and lively spirit.

Deborah Latouche, the Creative Director and Founder of the modest clothing label Sabirah, draws upon her Saint Lucian and Dominican heritage, along with her faith, to craft elegant, couture-inspired garments that embody sophistication and style.

Textile designer Hafza Yusuf, founder of Hafza Studio, celebrates her Somali heritage through her Dhaqan collection. By incorporating traditional patterns and techniques into modern designs, Yusuf honors the strength and pride of her background, creating pieces that resonate with cultural significance. Together, these designers exemplify how fashion can serve as a powerful medium for expressing identity, tradition, and faith.
