A recent poll by DatingAdvice of 3,000 single women has revealed that fashion trends reflecting outdoor lifestyles are particularly popular in certain states. In Washington, the laid-back “Pacific Northwest Casual” style—featuring flannel shirts, rain jackets, and hiking boots—was noted for its connection to nature and an environmentally conscious, adventurous spirit. This style ranked highly in the survey and was seen as attractive by many women.

Other regional styles also garnered attention. Pennsylvania’s “Classic Americana” style came in second, while Oklahoma’s “Cowboy Classic” ranked third.

However, the poll also identified New Jersey’s “Urban Edge” style as the nation’s top pick. According to DatingAdvice, this trend, characterized by fitted jeans, designer sneakers, and leather jackets, combines street style with urban sophistication and holds widespread appeal.

The survey didn’t shy away from highlighting fashion missteps. Among the least favorable choices, socks with sandals were deemed unacceptable by over a third of women, while 32% of respondents said that head-to-toe camouflage was a deal-breaker on first dates.

“Men’s fashion can be tricky,” said Amber Brooks, senior editor at DatingAdvice.com. “There are many unspoken rules about what women find attractive.”

The poll also revealed regional preferences across the western United States. Women in Oregon favored the same Pacific Northwest Casual look as those in Washington. In Idaho, women preferred Colorado’s “Mountain Modern” style. Women in California and Arizona gravitated towards Delaware’s “Coastal Casual,” while Nevada women preferred Illinois’ “Urban Tailored” style. Lastly, Montana women showed a preference for Alabama’s “Southern Classic” attire.
