New York, Dec. 10, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — On October 26, 2024, Daylight Studio in Hudson Yards, Manhattan, reimagined the traditional fashion runway with an innovative event titled “It’s Not Just Runway, But When Fashion Moves.” The 13,000-square-foot venue, known for its dramatic ceilings and expansive windows, hosted a groundbreaking showcase that blended fashion, dance, and rap performances, while emphasizing sustainability.
The event, conceived by Daylight Studio CEO Alfina Astor, featured a seamless integration of art forms and a powerful message on eco-consciousness. Collaborating with environmental experts from Yale University and professors from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), Astor aimed to combine creativity with a commitment to sustainability, offering more than just a visual spectacle.
A high-profile VIP audience—including influencers, buyers, stylists, photographers, and industry leaders—witnessed an exciting fusion of artistic expression and fashion. The new format challenged the traditional runway show, setting a fresh standard for the fashion industry.
Sustainability was at the heart of the event, with designers presenting collections made from deadstock fabrics and ethically sourced, reusable materials. This eco-conscious approach highlighted the fashion industry’s potential to innovate responsibly.
The event featured a roster of eco-focused designers, including Nan Seo of Nan SEO, Joy Qiu of ZiNg QiU, Andres Biel of IflyUniverse, Leo Hsiung of Voyagers, and Merhwait Tesfai of MerZiet. In addition, designers Jose Martinez and Michael Vias, supported by the nonprofit AHRC, showcased collections that celebrated inclusivity and environmental responsibility.
Performances from top dancers, including Naomi Romero Pedroso and Aya Krim, bookended the show, setting the tone and energizing the crowd. The choreography, crafted by world-renowned artist Valeria Alaviie, added an extra layer of artistry to the event.
Rakel Tanibajeva, a Yale University student and environmental advocate, delivered an empowering speech on the importance of sustainability in fashion, stressing the need for a conscious approach to design.
Daylight Studio also expressed its gratitude to key sponsors, including Cannon Models, Boom Balloon NYC, Mobile Beauty Services, Denoir Cosmetics, Simply Gum, and RVAirstream.com. Special thanks were extended to young entrepreneurs Daniel and Dylan Chanti of CHN “Come Here Now”, who played a key role in designing and conceptualizing the event.
“It’s Not Just Runway, But When Fashion Moves” marked a pivotal moment in the fashion industry, blending artistic innovation with environmental responsibility. The event showcased Daylight Studio’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of fashion presentation, setting a new precedent for shows that not only entertain but also educate and inspire.
Through this remarkable event, Daylight Studio reinforced its position as a leading destination for creative expression. With this groundbreaking showcase, Alfina Astor and her team have ushered in a new era where fashion, art, and sustainability coexist in harmony, shaping the future of the industry and inspiring the next generation of designers, artists, and audiences.
