Gucci and Kering Group jointly announced that Demna will officially take over as Gucci artistic director in early July 2025.
Demna has been at the helm of Balenciaga since 2015, redefining modern luxury fashion with disruptive designs that have gained global recognition and established him as a leader in the fashion industry.
François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering Group, said: “Demna’s contribution to Balenciaga and the entire group is extremely outstanding. His creative energy is exactly what Gucci needs most right now. While I am grateful for his achievements in the past ten years, I also look forward to the new artistic direction he will bring to Gucci.”
Francesca Bellettini, deputy CEO of Kering Group, further added: “Demna’s keen insight into contemporary culture, combined with his rich creative experience, makes him one of the most influential designers of this generation. His joining will become a catalyst for Gucci’s creative energy, bringing a new round of vitality and success to the brand. I look forward to him working with Stefano (Gucci CEO) to lead the brand into a new era.”
Gucci CEO Stefano Cantino said: “I have always admired Demna’s unique and powerful creative approach. His ability to pay tribute to the brand’s classic heritage while integrating modern aesthetics is particularly rare. Gucci has laid a solid foundation, and I believe Demna will lead the brand to re-establish its position as a fashion authority and continue to exert influence on the cultural level.”
Regarding this appointment, Demna also expressed his expectations: “It is an honor for me to join the Gucci family. I have always deeply respected and appreciated this brand, and I am very happy to join hands with Stefano and the team to write a new chapter for Gucci.”
