Melissa’s iconic jelly shoes are getting a new look thanks to a new collaboration with Parisian brand Nodaleto. The collection includes two styles, the Nodaleto x Melissa Ruby Ballet Flat and the Nodaleto x Melissa Possession Sandal, both made from Melissa’s ‘Melflex’ PVC material.
The color palette of both the sandal and the ballet flat is reminiscent of summer sunsets and sunrises. “The color we chose, tangerine, means a lot to us. It’s a Nodaleto signature – vibrant, warm and full of personality. We transformed it into an ombre to mimic a summer sunset in Rio de Janeiro, and watching it come to life through Melissa’s technology was like capturing a sunset in motion,” explains Nodaleto founder Julia Toledano.
She added: “This collaboration is a natural fit, bringing two very different brands together through a love of bold aesthetics, emotional storytelling and creative freedom. Nodaleto’s designs are sharp and nostalgic, sculptural and playful. This collaboration allowed us to reinterpret Nodaleto’s bold elements through Melissa’s mastery and accessibility to the material.”
For the designer, who previously collaborated with Marc Jacobs’ streetwear brand Heaven in 2021, working with Melissa was a welcome challenge to think outside the box.
For Toledano, who has her own brand, she is used to working with leather and traditional luxury materials, and working with plastic was a new experience. “It was so inspiring that Melissa was able to shape, sculpt and finish plastic while still giving it a sense of luxury and personality,” she said.
