Amsterdam, August 2024 — Fashion for Good, the Amsterdam-based organization known for its commitment to sustainable fashion, has announced a new initiative aimed at advancing sustainable solutions within the footwear industry. This initiative seeks to enhance performance and durability while promoting environmental responsibility.

Fashion for Good, in collaboration with prominent footwear partners including Adidas, Inditex, ON Running, PVH Corp., Reformation, Target, and Zalando, is focusing on addressing crucial points across the entire lifecycle of footwear. The program is structured around four core workstreams, which cover the supply chain from material sourcing to end-of-life management.

The organization has issued a call for action, inviting innovators and industry collaborators to join this effort. The goal is to drive footwear circularity and overcome the existing challenges in the sector through widespread industry collaboration.

Sigrid Buehrle, Senior Vice President of Product Operations at Adidas, commented on the partnership, stating, “Adidas has been a partner of Fashion for Good for over six years, working together on various sustainable innovation initiatives that have benefitted the fashion industry. We aim to build on this experience and extend our focus to the footwear sector. Currently, there is a limited range of low-impact materials that meet performance standards and scalability. We hope this initiative will help address these challenges.”

Fashion for Good emphasizes that overcoming the hurdles in sustainable footwear requires collective effort and innovation, making this initiative a critical step towards a more sustainable future in fashion.
