Copenhagen, August 2024 — Finnish designer Rolf Ekroth, known for his unique approach to gender-neutral clothing and technical sportswear, has unveiled his Spring/Summer 2025 collection, “Lavatanssit,” at Copenhagen Fashion Week. This collection draws inspiration from the traditional “Lavatanssit” dances held in the Finnish countryside, blending cultural storytelling with fashion.
Ekroth’s journey to fashion was unconventional. Initially a social worker turned poker player, he eventually left the gambling world due to its emotional and financial demands. His pivot to fashion has been a fortunate one for the industry, as he brings a distinctive style that merges his cultural roots with contemporary design.
The SS25 collection, showcased at the Poolen warehouse, transports viewers to a floral reverie. The show was set to the backdrop of Finnish folk songs, creating an eclectic and immersive atmosphere. The garments featured an array of all-over dandelion prints, tartan patterns, and camo motifs. These designs adorned technical outerwear, double-breasted blazers, and even life jackets that transformed into dresses.
A standout piece from the show was a pair of blue denim jeans meticulously adorned with 250 dandelions, creating a dynamic visual effect reminiscent of wind blowing through a field of flowers. The collection also featured vibrant Puma Speedcat OGs and oversized knitwear, including cardigans and jumpers, adding to the eclectic mix of textures and patterns.
Rolf Ekroth’s “Lavatanssit” collection is a testament to his innovative vision and ability to infuse his cultural heritage into contemporary fashion. For a closer look at the collection, explore the gallery above.
