Fashion Prices Rising Amid Trade Concerns in Bangladesh

by Tina

The fashion industry in Germany is growing increasingly concerned about the political turmoil in Bangladesh, a key textile supplier for the European market. Recent violent protests in Bangladesh have led to significant unrest, with the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government implementing curfews and deploying police and military forces. Reports indicate that over 400 people have died as a result of the unrest.

Bangladesh ranks as the second-largest clothing supplier to the German fashion industry, following China. In 2023, imports from Bangladesh amounted to €7.1 billion, according to the Federal Statistical Office. The ongoing crisis in Bangladesh is raising questions about its potential impact on fashion manufacturers and retailers, who are already grappling with rising costs and supply chain disruptions.
