Copenhagen Fashion Week, often regarded as Fashion Month’s avant-garde counterpart, provides an early look at the trends set to define spring/summer 2025 before the major fashion capitals of New York, London, Milan, and Paris take their turn. Known for its forward-thinking approach, Scandi style consistently leads the way in fashion innovation, offering a glimpse into future wardrobe essentials.

The Danish capital’s unusually mild weather this season seems to reflect the upcoming trends centered around joy and vitality—celebrating clothing, outdoor living, self-expression, and the pleasures of life. “We design dresses that you can walk quickly in,” says Rebekka Bay, Creative Director at Marimekko. “You have the freedom to style them as you wish, while still being able to move through your day.”

Designer Joao Maraschin echoes this sentiment, highlighting the trend towards an effortlessly versatile wardrobe. “The emerging trend is about blending casual, dressy, and cool elements in a single outfit,” Maraschin explains. This includes mixing tailored jackets with swimwear and heels, pairing cocktail dresses with heavy denim, and combining maxi jumpers and jackets with miniskirts and sneakers. The runway showcased these contrasts with a range of styles from sheer fabrics to full moto leather ensembles and vibrant acid green accents.

Copenhagen Fashion Week distinguishes itself with its commitment to sustainability. Designers must adhere to strict eco-friendly standards, using at least 60 percent certified, preferred, or deadstock materials to participate. This marks the fourth consecutive season these requirements have been in effect, setting a precedent that other fashion weeks, such as Berlin’s, are now considering adopting.
