While the catwalk often grabs the spotlight, it’s the local fashion insiders in Copenhagen who truly set the style agenda. At Copenhagen Fashion Week (CPHFW), where unexpected trends take center stage, it’s not just about the clothing but the entire experience that defines the Danish capital’s unique fashion sense. Here are 10 of the most unusual trends to emerge this season.
Unlike New York Fashion Week, which is known for its plush hotel settings, or Paris, where iconic landmarks set the stage, CPHFW attendees found themselves in less traditional venues. Show-goers were seated in a car park for Caro Editions’ debut, ventured to a disused distillery for Remain’s presentation, and even scaled a former coal crane to check out the Stel show.
The footwear scene was equally unconventional. While American fashion editors struggled with Copenhagen’s ancient cobblestone streets in stilettos, their Scandinavian counterparts opted for flats and, more often, bicycles. Yes, even the biggest Danish fashion influencers cycled to shows.
The trend of sensible footwear was evident as trail shoes from Salomon and Puma’s Speedcat OGs, particularly in red suede, dominated the scene. Mesh ballet flats also made a strong appearance, while cowboy boots were noticeably absent, perhaps deemed too reminiscent of a certain political figure. On rainy days, locals favored motocross high-tops or simple cropped rubber boots, keeping both style and practicality in mind.
