Milan Emerges as a Modern Fashion Epicenter

by Tina

Milan, Italy — Renowned for its rich tradition in fashion, Milan is now becoming a hub for contemporary style as leading fashion houses embrace a fresh, modern energy. Esteemed brands such as Gucci, Tod’s, Ferragamo, Etro, Missoni, Bally, and Moschino are infusing their storied histories with innovative design perspectives, setting a new standard for Milanese fashion.

Simone Bellotti, the newly appointed creative director of Swiss brand Bally, exemplifies this modern shift. His debut collection at Milan Fashion Week in February, featuring elegant coats, luxurious sweaters, and desirable footwear, injected a renewed excitement into the 173-year-old brand. Bellotti, who hails from just north of Milan, emphasized the blend of classic and contemporary in his designs. “I’m not afraid to say that these are classic pieces,” he stated, “but I aim to create a very comfortable silhouette, with softer shoulders on jackets and suits that embrace rather than constrain.”

Bellotti’s career includes stints with influential designers like Carol Christian Poell and Gianfranco Ferré, as well as roles at Bottega Veneta and Dolce & Gabbana. Prior to joining Bally in May, he spent 16 years at Gucci, working under Frida Giannini and Alessandro Michele. “More than my Italian heritage, I’m a product of all the experiences I’ve had, which come from various places,” Bellotti added, highlighting the diverse influences shaping his design approach.
