Fashion Suppliers Urge Brands to Support EU Green Regulations

Tina

As the fashion industry faces impending green supply-chain regulations, clothing manufacturers in low-income countries, particularly in Bangladesh and other parts of Asia, are expressing concerns about the potential burden these new climate and labor rules may impose on them.

Major international brands like Sweden’s H&M Group and the U.S. retailer Walmart are setting ambitious sustainability targets. H&M aims to reduce carbon emissions by 56 percent by 2030, while Walmart’s Project Gigaton seeks to eliminate 1 billion metric tons of emissions from its global value chain by the same year.

In light of these developments, suppliers are calling for more collaboration and support from these brands to help navigate the challenges associated with compliance. They emphasize that achieving sustainability goals should be a shared responsibility, as the implications of new regulations could disproportionately impact manufacturers in developing regions.
