Fashion enthusiasts on campus will soon have a dedicated platform to express their creativity with the upcoming launch of Fashion in Trend (FIT) magazine. Pending final approval, the organization plans to publish one themed issue each semester, providing members the opportunity to explore the narratives behind the fashion that inspires them.
Each semester, FIT will produce both print and digital publications, highlighting everything from global fashion trends to unique campus styling. To foster engagement, the magazine will feature Instagram segments titled “What are you wearing today?” where students will be interviewed about their outfits.
While the primary focus will be on the semesterly publication, Vice President Oehlers noted that FIT may consider releasing shorter digital editions in the future, depending on member interest. “As we grow and mature as a club, we hope to increase our publication frequency, but for now, we’re concentrating on one edition per semester,” Oehlers explained in an email to the Collegian.
Membership requires students to attend two meetings and participate in writing, photography, design, or editing roles. Aspiring writers can pitch article ideas to the editorial team, with approved concepts paired with an editor. “We encourage our writers to choose topics they are passionate about, which will enrich the diversity of perspectives in our magazine,” Oehlers added.
Once they receive final approval from the Student Life Committee, FIT plans to distribute a general interest form to the student body to gauge interest and establish a distribution list. Beyond the magazine, Oehlers and fellow leader Lee hope to collaborate with other organizations for on-campus fashion shows and thrift events.
Vice President for Student Affairs Celestino Limas expressed enthusiasm for the project, particularly regarding sneaker culture. “Sneakerheads on campus could contribute insights from that angle, as shoe culture is a significant aspect of fashion here,” he said in an interview. “It will be exciting to see the variety of projects students undertake.”
