Maori-owned fashion brands KaistorSt and Mitchell Vincent Collection have made a significant entry into the Thai fashion scene with the launch of their latest collections in Bangkok.

On Thursday, the brands hosted a fashion show titled “AHO: Continuity and Connection,” showcasing a unique blend of Maori culture and Thai traditions.

Nichola Te Kiri, owner of KaistorSt, reported overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees. “Everyone loved it. They really appreciated our culture. Many expressed interest in seeing this event again,” she said, highlighting the audience’s understanding of the cultural narratives behind the designs.

KaistorSt aims to redefine fashion by sharing Indigenous stories through limited edition and custom garments, integrating pūrākau (stories) into each creation.

Mitchell Vincent, founder of the Mitchell Vincent Collection, has gained international acclaim, reaching audiences across New Zealand and cities like Sydney, Kuala Lumpur, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong. His designs, inspired by generational stories and crafted from ethically sourced and deadstock fabrics, reflect a sophisticated aesthetic that intertwines Maori and Thai cultural elements.

Vincent noted that guests were captivated by the representation of New Zealand fashion, emphasizing, “It’s wonderful to merge culture and fashion, which is the ultimate goal for both Nichola and me.”
