Once viewed as a niche market dominated by swimwear and resort wear, Australia’s fashion scene has evolved to showcase a diverse array of brands. Internationally recognized names such as minimalist label St Agni from Byron Bay, Christopher Esber known for his deconstructed glamour, and Zimmermann, which has transformed from youthful beachwear to a global powerhouse, are now on the radar of fashion enthusiasts worldwide.
However, the economic downturn has posed significant challenges for Australian fashion brands. Dion Lee, one of the country’s largest independent labels, recently entered administration, shuttering its seven Australian stores and one in the U.S. In a related development, Sass & Bide, once a beloved brand of the 2010s, announced the closure of 10 out of its 14 stores, shifting its focus predominantly to an online business model.
