October 18, 2024 – Beijing Internationally acclaimed fashion designer Rick Owens and his entourage faced an unexpected request during their recent visit to the Forbidden City in Beijing. Although the historic site does not enforce a formal dress code, Owens, along with his wife Michele Lamy and members of the avant-garde brand Fecal Matter, were asked to “return in normal clothing,” prompting their prompt departure.
Owens is widely recognized for his bold Gothic aesthetic and has received numerous accolades, including the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Lifetime Achievement Award and the title of Best Menswear Designer.
During their tour, the group, celebrated for their unconventional styles, was met with vigilant security who insisted they adhere to a more traditional appearance. This led to an immediate exit from the venue.
