The Global Fashion Summit, a prominent international forum focused on sustainable fashion, will make its debut in China next month. The special event, titled Global Fashion Summit: Shanghai Gala, is scheduled for November 7, 2024, as part of the China International Import Expo (CIIE). Organized by the Global Fashion Agenda (GFA) in collaboration with Chinamind NEXT, the gala will gather both local and international industry stakeholders for an evening of insightful discussions during a gala dinner.

Since its inception in Copenhagen in 2009, the Global Fashion Summit has served as a platform for key decision-makers to engage in critical conversations surrounding the environmental, social, and ethical challenges facing the fashion industry. Over its 15-year history, the summit has aimed to inspire urgent action and foster impactful change.

This inaugural event in China will extend the themes from the June Copenhagen Summit, titled “Unlocking New Heights.” As the fashion industry approaches the deadline for the Sustainable Development Goals, the gala seeks to encourage collaborative efforts and the sharing of evidence-based progress to tackle ongoing challenges.

The gala will precede GFA’s participation in CIIE on November 8, 2024, where GFA CEO Federica Marchionni will deliver a keynote address. This forum is renowned for its focus on sustainable innovation technologies, showcasing how advancements can drive sustainability in the lifestyle sector and further the industry’s climate objectives.

China is pivotal in this transformation; in 2023, it emerged as the largest exporter of ready-to-wear clothing, capturing a market share of 31.6% and achieving exports worth $165 billion. The rise of ultra-fast fashion brands has significantly impacted consumer behavior, while the luxury market in China has nearly doubled since 2019. The Shanghai Gala aims to foster cooperation across the fashion value chain, address pressing environmental and social concerns, bridge gaps between global markets, and share innovative solutions.

The collaboration between Chinamind NEXT and GFA promises to leverage regional execution capabilities and global sustainability insights, inspiring action within the industry.
