Toronto is set to showcase its latest architectural marvels this week as Fashion Art Toronto (FAT) kicks off its Fall 2024 programming at the newly constructed T3 Bayside building on Queens Quay East. This innovative timber structure replaces the event’s previous venue, Black Creek Assembly.
Fashion Art Toronto, the city’s longest-running fashion week, begins its four-day celebration on November 14. The event will feature a handpicked lineup of 45 designers from across Canada. As one of the most anticipated fashion events, it continues to grow in scale and impact each year.
Vanja Vasic, the Serbian-born fashion visionary and founder of FAT, emphasized the exciting changes for this year’s event. “This season’s theme, ‘Disruption,’ focuses on highlighting artists and designers who challenge traditional fashion norms through sustainable practices, new materials, avant-garde silhouettes, and bold, conceptual designs,” Vasic said.
What to Expect at Fashion Art Toronto
While the runway shows are the main attraction, there is plenty more to explore. The “Fashion Playground” will host interactive spaces, including an “Art Exhibition,” a “Presentation Stage,” and a “Fashion & Beauty Boutique Bar.”
Vasic added, “We’ve enhanced the experience with immersive art installations and exhibitions, and we’re collaborating with artists to create a fashion film centered on our theme, as well as a major campaign for our art exhibition.”
The beauty bar, a returning staple from previous years, will feature an expanded market offering products from Canadian designers, including jewelry, beauty items, accessories, and clothing.
The four-day event allows for single-day or full-week ticket purchases.
Thursday, November 14: Opening Night
The festivities begin on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with a reception, followed by a runway show celebrating the recipients of the Myles Sexton Breakout Talent Award. Designers like Lindsay King, House of Dwir, and Jacquline Bradica will showcase their award-winning creations.
Later in the evening, Suburban Deviant will present their show at 8 p.m., after receiving the FASHN DISRPTN award. This award, introduced this year, aims to recognize innovators in the Canadian fashion scene.
The night concludes with a runway show by Evan Biddel, winner of Project Runway Canada and finalist on Project Runway All-Stars.
Friday, November 15: Emerging Talents
Friday will feature a focus on Toronto’s emerging fashion talent. At 6 p.m., fashion students from Toronto Metropolitan University will present their designs. This will be followed by the debut of the ‘1664 Iconic Accessory Showcase’ at 7 p.m., featuring brands like StudioMEMA, Portia J. Alight, Phoenix Ba, and Imago Millinery. The night wraps up with a 10 p.m. group show featuring the dark, avant-garde designs of AMATUS I GRAY, Brandon Kier, and KRATER.
Saturday, November 16: Avant-Garde Showcases
Saturday’s shows start at 6 p.m. with up-and-coming designers STYNTSOV and ZoeStone. At 8 p.m., the avant-garde brand PROCESS VISUAL will take the stage, followed by GORM’s show at 9 p.m., showcasing more bold and experimental designs.
Sunday, November 17: The Final Show
The final day of FAT begins with a 6 p.m. show by Zedes, a brand inspired by nature, which was featured in last year’s event. The last show of the week, at 9 p.m., will be by Kendrick Tran, a radical queer Vietnamese fashion designer, presenting their collection “First Life.”
Afterparty
The closing night afterparty will take place at Future, a new Toronto nightclub at 570 Queen St. West. The Montreal-based duo Fecal Matter, known for their collaborations with major fashion brands like Rick Owens and Jean Paul Gaultier, will DJ the event.
