Gucci is set to unveil its latest collection with a runway show in Milan this February, as announced by President and CEO Marco Bizzarri on Tuesday. Speaking at the 26th Pambianco Fashion Summit at Milan’s Bourse, Bizzarri also revealed that the brand will hold two additional runway shows later in the year—one in late spring and another in September.
Gucci’s last show as part of Milan Fashion Week was in February 2020, when it showcased the Fall 2020 women’s collection. Creative Director Alessandro Michele used the event to explore the complex process of designing, creating, staging, and viewing a fashion show.
The brand took a break from the Milan Fashion Week schedule following the COVID-19 outbreak. Gucci skipped the Spring 2021 men’s shows in June and instead revealed its “Epilogue” collection digitally in July 2020, aligning with a Resort 2021 release.
At the time, Michele explained his decision to move away from traditional fashion schedules, stating, “We’ve inherited terms that no longer have meaning. Words like cruise and pre-fall feel outdated and empty of significance.” He added that such scheduled events were not conducive to creativity, and a more flexible system was needed to reflect the current moment.
In November 2020, Gucci presented a co-ed collection titled “Ouverture of Something That Never Ended,” which included a mini-series developed with director Gus Van Sant. Last April, the brand celebrated its 100th anniversary with the digital “Aria” showcase, featuring both men’s and women’s Fall 2021 collections.
Earlier this month, Gucci returned to the physical runway format with the “Gucci Love Parade” show in Los Angeles on Hollywood Boulevard.
