Luxury fashion house SHANGHAI TANG marks three decades of success with the launch of its new “Friends of SHANGHAI TANG” Collection. Designed by Joe Li, who co-led the brand’s creative direction from 2012 to 2016, the collection pays homage to the brand’s origins in the Year of the Dragon. It showcases SHANGHAI TANG’s signature blend of contemporary Asian design, modern chinoiserie, and timeless elegance.
The collection reflects the joy of living and the brand’s core values of expressive contrasts and sophistication. Li aimed to capture the essence of “extraordinary every day,” offering a versatile range of pieces suitable for both day and night. The lineup includes blazers, silk dresses, embroidered coats, eco-fur jackets, and handbags, all featuring contemporary Asian influences and modern Chinese motifs.
Notably, the collection draws inspiration from the Qing dynasty robes, reimagined with floral and dragon motifs from European Medieval and Renaissance art. These historical references are modernized through sleek, streamlined silhouettes and SHANGHAI TANG’s signature color palette. Each piece combines classic details with a fresh, contemporary twist.
Additionally, the entire collection is crafted from eco-friendly materials, aligning with SHANGHAI TANG’s commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.
In early October, a preview of the collection at Siam Paragon during Bangkok International Fashion Week 2024 captivated attendees, celebrating the fusion of the qipao’s traditional elegance with the modern edge of denim. SHANGHAI TANG’s 30th anniversary marks a milestone of innovation and cultural fusion in the luxury fashion world.
