Alex Consani has made history once again, this time by becoming the first out trans woman to win the prestigious *Model of the Year* award at the 2024 Fashion Awards.

The model, who was named this year’s “It Girl,” has already cemented her place in the fashion world. She made headlines earlier this year as one of the first two openly trans models to walk the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Now, Consani has added another milestone to her career by taking home the *Model of the Year* honor at the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards.

During her acceptance speech at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Monday, December 2, Consani shared her pride. “I’m the first trans woman to win this award,” she said. But she was quick to acknowledge the trailblazers who paved the way for her success. “I can’t accept this award without thanking those who came before me, specifically the Black trans women who fought for the space I’m in today—Dominique Jackson, Connie Fleming, Aaron Rose Phillips, and countless others who made it possible for me to be here today.”

The victory makes Consani the first out trans model to win the prestigious award, which is given to a model who has had a major global impact and whose influence extends beyond the runway.

Consani also expressed gratitude to her family for their unwavering support. In her speech, she urged parents of trans children to be a source of strength for their kids. “Change is more than possible; it’s needed,” she concluded.

The *Model of the Year* award recognizes a model who has had a significant influence on the fashion industry over the past year, and Consani’s rise is a testament to her growing impact. Since making her runway debut in 2021, walking for Tom Ford, she has become a regular presence at major fashion shows.

Consani’s nomination for the award was announced in August, alongside other notable models, including non-binary model Kai-Isaiah Jamal and Danish model Mona Tougaard, who has openly identified as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

This recognition marks a significant moment in fashion history, as it highlights the increasing visibility and representation of trans models in an industry traditionally dominated by cisgender individuals.
