A new collaboration between Japanese fashion giants Yohji Yamamoto POUR HOMME and NEIGHBORHOOD is making waves, marking another significant chapter in their partnership. This time, they’ve enlisted a true cultural icon to front their campaign: Ian Brown, the legendary lead singer of The Stone Roses.
Brown, 61, known for his role in the Madchester music scene of the late ’80s and ’90s, is seen in the campaign sporting his signature shaggy hairstyle, now grown out and pinned behind his ears. The collaboration highlights both the brands’ dedication to blending fashion with subcultures, and Brown’s involvement is a significant moment for NEIGHBORHOOD, a brand deeply rooted in rock culture. It’s rare for the British musician to lend his image to fashion campaigns, making this partnership even more notable.
For Shinsuke Takizawa, the founder of NEIGHBORHOOD, this collaboration is particularly meaningful. Takizawa’s brand has always been influenced by subcultures and rock music, and now he has a certified British music legend representing his brand.
The collection expands upon previous releases from Yohji Yamamoto and NEIGHBORHOOD, featuring bold streetwear staples like hoodies, T-shirts, and sweaters. New takes on distressed jeans and rose-printed bomber jackets from the FW23 collection are also featured. However, the standout piece is a unique parka jacket. The design includes a detachable military-style liner, worn in reverse to its usual configuration, adding an interesting twist to its styling.
The parka’s cultural significance, particularly in Brown’s Manchester hometown, makes it a standout in the collection. Its connection to the city’s subculture and its bold design choices make it a hero piece in the collaboration.
The full collection will be available for release on December 6, offering a fresh mix of avant-garde streetwear and classic subcultural style.
