Breanna Stewart opened up about the inspiration behind her eye-catching “tunnel fits” during the WNBA season in a recent interview. The New York Liberty star sat down with ESPN’s Hannah Storm for a conversation about her fashion choices, which was posted on ESPN’s YouTube channel on Saturday.
Storm began the interview by calling Stewart a “fashion icon” and showing images of her signature tunnel outfits. She then asked Stewart to share the thought process behind her fashion selections, the brands she works with, and her overall style.
One of the first outfits Stewart discussed was a matching set from the Puma x Dapper Dan collaboration. She also explained the inspiration for her all-Dior tribute to New York City, as well as the gold Audemars Piguet watch she wore to a WNBA Finals game.
Storm praised Stewart for her ability to take traditionally men’s clothing and make it her own. Stewart explained that her understanding of her body helps her adapt men’s styles, particularly for her long arms. “I make sure to bring a feminine vibe to it,” she said.
Stewart also reflected on the rise of the “tunnel fit” trend, noting that it gained popularity after COVID-19. “I knew once I came to New York, I had to bring it,” she said.
In addition to discussing fashion, Stewart shared her excitement about the future of the WNBA. When asked about the league’s expansion and the introduction of a new team, the Golden State Valkyries, Stewart said, “I think the growth of the league is really exciting.” She added that she is curious to see how the expansion draft plays out, as it’s a process she’s not fully familiar with.
“It’s an exciting time,” Stewart said. “I don’t know who will get picked, but I’m sure it’s a tough job. It’s like, if I don’t know, then no one else does, and fans will be eager to learn more about this new team coming to the Bay Area.”
