Chitkara University’s Department of Fashion Design recently held its annual “Emerge Graduate Fashion Show 2024,” a vibrant event spotlighting the creative talents of emerging fashion designers. The showcase featured 11 carefully selected student collections, which spanned a diverse range of styles including knitwear, zero-waste designs, heritage Indian textiles, fusion wear, streetwear, athleisure, and avant-garde fashion. Each collection demonstrated a commitment to sustainability and innovative design approaches, offering fresh perspectives on the future of fashion.
The event drew attention from key industry figures, including Ujjawal Dubey, founder and creative director of Antar-Agni, and Yvette Joan Noethen and Javier Reyes, international recruiters from The Walt Disney Company. Their presence underscored the event’s global significance, highlighting the growing impact of emerging designers.
Student involvement went beyond design, with the entire production—including choreography, music, and staging—managed by students, under the guidance of faculty mentors. This hands-on approach to education emphasizes Chitkara University’s commitment to preparing students for real-world challenges in the fashion industry.
Madhu Chitkara, Pro-Chancellor of Chitkara University, emphasized the importance of fostering creativity and innovation in fashion education. “Our students are not only trained to excel in design but also to recognize the need for sustainable and forward-thinking solutions within the industry. ‘Emerge’ serves as a platform for them to showcase their skills and connect with global leaders,” she said.
The evening’s highlight was the presentation of the Best Graduate Collection Award, which went to Anshika Gupta for her avant-garde collection, “Altered Perspectives.” Inspired by organic architecture, Gupta’s designs stood out for their unique fusion of form, function, and sustainability, earning her recognition as a promising talent in the fashion world.
