MILAN, Dec 11 (Reuters) – Fashion house Maison Margiela has announced it is parting ways with its artistic director, John Galliano, after a decade-long collaboration. The decision was confirmed by its parent company, OTB, on Wednesday, though no specific reason for the separation was provided.

Galliano, who was hired by OTB founder Renzo Rosso in 2014, was brought on after being dismissed from Christian Dior in 2011 due to a video showing him making anti-Semitic remarks at a Paris bar. OTB, which owns several other high-profile brands including Diesel, Marni, and Jil Sander, praised Galliano’s contributions, with Rosso stating that Galliano had “laid the foundations for the future of Maison Margiela.” Rosso also expressed confidence that there would be future opportunities for collaboration.

Following his departure from Dior, Galliano admitted to undergoing treatment for substance abuse and briefly worked at Oscar de la Renta in 2013. In a statement, Galliano expressed his gratitude, saying, “I want to express my immense gratitude. I continue to atone, and I will never stop dreaming.”

He also thanked Renzo Rosso for giving him the opportunity to rediscover his creative voice, stating, “Renzo Rosso gave me the greatest, most precious gift, allowing me the opportunity to once again find my creative voice when I had become voiceless.”
