Once a well-known fashion reporter under Business of Fashion, Lauren Sherman joined the subscription-based self-media Puck in 2023. As the top figure in the fashion industry, Lauren Sherman’s appearance often makes public relations or CEOs tremble (this description is an exaggeration). After all, as independent media reporters, they are not bound by industry norms. In an era full of fake news and gossip, they can even make some important, tempting and brands don’t want people to know transparently, for example, the designer’s stay and departure and the real direction of corporate culture.
Her unique charm attracted System magazine, whose editor-in-chief Jonathan Wingfield interviewed her in June 2024. Based on the semi-annual publication of System, Hedi Slimane and John Galliano were still working at the time, and CHANEL was still “recruiting”…
It must be said that she does not have a very special resume. She was interested in fashion when she was young. She attended Emerson College in Boston and worked as a magazine writer. After graduation, she worked in London for two years. After returning to New York, she joined Forbes magazine. Because of her interest, her supervisor at the time suggested that she read “The End of Fashion: How Marketing Changed the Clothing Business Forever” written by Teri Agin. She recalled, “I realized that this is much more interesting than what I wrote.” With the expansion of the fashion industry after 2000, Lauren Sherman was inspired to do this as her ambition – to analyze fashion from a business perspective.
At Forbes magazine, she learned how to be a “reporter”. “The editorial office here is full of senior reporters who call sources day and night (but you can’t quote them. As an expert, you have to derive your own opinions). Calling as hard as I can is what I do at Puck.”
