It’s 2025, and we’re probably all in trouble, but imagine it’s 2003. You’re about to see Sum 41 and/or Taking Back Sunday perform on the Warped Tour, and you’re wearing the exact same outfit that Timothée Chalamet wore while buying bagels in Los Angeles on Monday.
It’s hot, so you’re wearing a thin olive green tank top. Your keys—perhaps attached to a Prada robot keychain, like Chalamet’s—hang from the belt loops on your back. Your black cargo shorts—currently a summer wardrobe staple, as they are for the actor right now—are paired with a silver-studded belt.
On your feet, you’re probably wearing a pair of Converse-style sneakers; for Chalamet, that means wearing black Nike mid-calf socks tucked into a pair of Rick Owens Drkshdw “Hollywood” high-tops, one of several unique silhouettes that the stylish prince of darkness has featured in his rugged footwear repertoire.
(Speaking from personal experience, I recently saw several young sneakerheads wearing similar Rick Owens sneakers at a lively Nettspend concert in New York City.) For those who have been paying attention, Timmy has flaunted his membership in Rick’s “tribe” before—he owns a few pairs of sneakers, and at the 2021 Met Gala, he wore a Rick turtleneck sweater under a Haider Ackermann tuxedo jacket.
Maybe you wear a beat-up baseball cap to keep out the unrelenting sun. Your hat is definitely beat-up because you’ve sweated and danced in it. Meanwhile, Timmy’s hat is a hand-me-down, $285 model made by Nahmias, a Los Angeles streetwear brand that made several custom hoodies for his A Complete Unknown press tour. (The brand’s founder, Doni Nahmias, also happens to be dating Victoria Villarroel, a friend and former assistant to Chalamet’s girlfriend, Kylie Jenner.)
After all, Chalamet is a Hollywood A-lister, and he wasn’t attending a pop-punk festival nearly 25 years ago—he was buying a $6 bagel in Beverly Hills. Such simpler times have never felt so far away.
